January 12, 2009 FEMA Utilizes OPM Contract with Safety Solutions For Rescue Training
Safety Solutions Inc. has entered into a contract with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) which the Federal Emergency Management Agency will utilize in order to have 28 Federal Urban Search and Rescue teams trained. Working in the wake of disasters – natural or otherwise – these groups will rely on Safety Solutions’ training to ensure they are equipped to do their jobs as effectively as possible.
“These FEMA teams are directly responsible for saving human lives, and Safety Solutions provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to facilitate a safe and effective response,” said Chief Executive Michael T. Reimer. Safety Solutions helps facilitate that response all over the world. In fact, Reimer said Safety Solutions trained some of the groups in Mumbai who were called to respond after terrorists attacked in November 2008. “We do work for USAID (United States Agency for International Development), building rescue teams in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines and Indonesia,” Reimer said, discussing his company’s value to the international search and rescue community.
Having received the OPM contract in 2007, Safety Solutions Inc. continued the training through 2011. Reimer said that although there is a small group of companies in the U.S. providing similar services, Safety Solutions is proud to offer a complete package.
“Safety Solutions provides a total solution that includes the latest instructional techniques, a complete rescue equipment cache, a complete training site that includes dormitories, full classroom support, auditorium, and a full-service cafeteria,” Reimer said. “The site has a state-of-the-art Urban Search and Rescue training facility that has all the necessary skill stations to challenge even the most experienced rescuer.” Safety Solutions is a leader in the industry and is proud to offer these vital, innovative courses such as those for Heavy Rigging Specialists, Communications Specialists, Canine Search Specialists, Structural Collapse Technicians and many others.
“Safety Solutions programs meet or exceed national standards such as NFPA 1670 and NFPA 1006 requirements for rescue technicians,” Reimer said. When the U.S. government did its market research to find the right training provider for responders who are often first on the scene at natural and man-made disasters worldwide, it found in Safety Solutions the perfect combination of technology, resources and know-how.
“No one else can offer what we do,” Reimer said.
