Interpretation of building construction and terrain of an area is used to outline a search rescue strategy. This information is used to perform “probability of detection”analysis,victim behavior patterns,and recognition of victim location clues. This course provides state-of-the-art search techniques and tactics that are essential in a task force rescue.
- Course Enabling Objectives
At the completion of this course the student will:
- Describe the National Urban Search and Rescue Response System within FEMA,including the FEMA US&R Program Office and the US&R Advisory Organization
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of the Technical Search Specialist
- Apply the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards that specifically apply to US&R Operations
- Identify safety issues and categorize common hazards encountered during US&R activities
- Identify different types of damaged structures and the hazards most common to damaged structures
- Mitigate identified risks to an acceptable level
- Demonstrate the Technical Search Specialist's role and responsibilities for functional interaction during deployment and exercises
- Identify training course objectives,ground rules, and administrative requirements
- Acknowledge US&R program updates and work group assignments
- 40 hour course
